I hate writing this review because I love Defy and its crew. But the flap on this bag is basically non-functional. It is not wide enough to cover the interior when closed - so in the event of getting caught in inclement weather, I've got two big gaps on either side of the flap to funnel rain onto my laptop, books, etc.
There are other little annoyances - the backpack straps don't tuck into the back pocket at all neatly - really gotta cram them in there and they look like crap when you do, so there's no hope of converting this into a semi-professional looking shoulder bag. The zipper is a cheaper version of the Riri that's in the pictures, and sticks a lot.
Like I said, a lot of niggling annoyances with one huge fatal design flaw. Got this on sale with an additional markdown, so I didn't feel it was worth returning - I use it as a fair-weather backpack. It's a shame because this could've been great. I think I now understand why it was on markdown. Dan on 26th Jul 2015
I work in advertising and was in the market for a rugged bag that was roomy enough for a 15" macbook pro and a Wacom tablet + extras. I didn't want a stodgy, leather "work case", but it still needed to look good when visiting clients.
The Lug bag is by far the best back pack I have owned. It's roomy, spacious, rugged as fu@# and has a fresh clean look (I've gotten compliments on it from day one). Best of all, the materials and tight construction constantly assure me that I've made a good choice. Joe Rivera on 20th Nov 2013
So I paid an old friend a visit while in Chicago and wanted to pick up a Defy Bag. Chris and Dana did a great job of recommending the Lug based on what I described I would use it for. In my work there are days where I am updating sales and design on new products or presenting from my iPad. The Lug supports my work in every way. Dirk T. on 19th Jun 2013
Great job with this backpack. It works equally well as a messenger, and it holds all my gear in a nice compact profile. Seriously, it's like I hit my Macbook and iPad with a shrink ray. I knew the construction would be top notch, but the design exceeded my expectations on all accounts. Chris W. on 3rd May 2013
This was the first Defy bag I purchased and I completely love it.
I wanted the option and flexibility of being able to wear a backpack but also carry around a messenger bag. That's why I fell in love with the Lug from Defy.
I also have a 15.4" Thinkpad with an extended battery so I wasn't too sure if it was going to fit into the laptop compartment but to my relief it fit just perfectly. The zip compartment is very help to keep some stuff safe and secure...it helps to have that level of comfort when its using the RiRi zippers ('the Rolls Royce of zippers').
Just like the other reviews of other bags, the quality and craftsmanship of the Lug is world-class. I have no doubt my Lug will last for many years to come. I'm a Defy customer for life and look forward to purchasing other products. David S. on 25th Feb 2013
