Equal straight sides. Four right angles. Hell, this ain’t math class but lets just get one thing out there...it’s hip to be square. Plane. Simple. Straightforward and mild mannered get a squared off back roundhouse kick in the teeth from a $30.00 a piece imported solid steel and brass 2” AustriAlpin Cobra quick release buckle. The same buckles used by Special Forces. That ain't square at all yo! Rugged reclaimed and military contractor sourced M35 military 24 oz vinyl/canvas truck tarps are hand-crafted in Chicago using military spec thread, and solid steel swivel clips and hardware fly the finger to the incessant over use of flimsy plastic found on most bags. Just get squared away.

Having temporarily given up my search for an all-everything, uber-organized, business-appropriate, but-still-everyday backpack, I decided I needed a small bag that's just good for my iPad, notebook, and a few other things.
The Square Mini is perfect. The back pocket inside fits an iPad vertically or (a little snugly) horizontally. The front pocket is perfect for a notebook, and you can hang a couple of pens on the edge, inside. There are two smaller pockets inside for assorted small items. And you can throw a water bottle or book or even neatly-folded gym clothes in the main compartment.
I can't say enough about the awesome tactile feel of the truck tarp material, bike tire innertube trim, the seat belt strap, and the Cobra buckle. The bag just oozes quality, and until you get up close, it could be mistaken for leather. Yet despite the unique and exotic materials, the bag's minimal styling makes it perfectly business-appropriate for anything short of the boardroom.
I've had the bag for a few weeks and have received numerous comments/compliments. There's nothing really like it.
Plus, Chris is a cool dude. If you're in Chicago, trek up to Ravenswood to buy your bag directly, check out his operation, and grab yourself a good lunch at Glenn's Diner, a block and a half away across from the Montrose Brown Line.
When Chris gets around to making the bag to the specs I suggested... I expect I'll be dropping another $300 with Defy Bags!

A perfect piece of kit. Works exactly as you want it to. This is the business!

Love the bag. 1) Does not seem to be three inches deep; more like 2+.
2) I did rip out the front pocket divider seem the day after I received the bag. My hand did not fit in the skinny pockets. One big pocket works great. 3) I did swap out the strap; wanted 4 to 5 inches more to get around my large frame when cross shoulder carry. 4) Love the size, materials, look and carry. My Strawfoot Haversack and Defy Mini are now my two favorite bags; and if you knew me, that is saying something. Oh, perfect bag for Scooter (Vespa) rides.
